JUST PASSING THROUGH ON MY WAY HOME

PAGE 19 - THE TRUE SOURCE OF OUR UNHAPPINESS

.....We all have feelings of guilt for what we have done or have not done in the past.
.....Once we feel guilty we believe that we will be punished for the terrible things that we have done. We will then be afraid of what this punish- ment will be.
.....We believe it will be God Himself Who will punish us. What we have done, of course, is that by becoming afraid of God we have changed the God of Love into a God of fear: a God of punishment, and vengeance. This is just what the ego wants us to do. Once we feel guilt, we fear God. So God, Who is our loving Father and our best Friend, now becomes our enemy.
.....Now that we are in deep trouble, we need a scapegoat. The origin of the word scapegoat is from the book of Leviticus in the Old Testament. So now with the help of our ego we take the guilt, or the sinfulness that we believe is in- side of us, and we say: It is not me; it is in you. I am not the guilty person, you are the guilty person. I am not the one who is responsible. The ego does not care whom you project onto as long as you find someone onto whom you can unload your guilt. We usually project our guilt on the ones we love the most (sad).
.....The next move is to distance ourselves from our guilt, so we try to separate ourselves from the ones we put our sins on. The way we do this is to attack them or get angry at them. Any expression of our anger, whether it is in the form of a mild annoyance or intense rage, (it does not make any difference; it is all the same) is always an attempt to justify the projection of our guilt, no matter what our anger's cause seems to be. This need to project our guilt is the root cause of all anger, hate (fear) and evil in the world. What the ego does not tell us is that attack is the best way to stay feeling guilty. In reality the ego's fundamental purpose is to keep us guilty and away from God.
.....The only solution is to remove enough of the blame you have placed on others to see the light that shines from them. The light shines in you and it shines in me, in fact, it is the same light. In short, forgiveness and love is the only path to free ourselfs of guilt.
.....We need to recognize that our anger is a decision that we made to project our guilt. The next thing that we have to do is look at our guilt and say this is not what we really are. You are not what I made you; you are really what God created." Now you can say "I am a son of God rather than a son of the ego." We need to ask our inner Power to help us get rid of our guilt so that we will not be trying to shift it on somone else.

Affirmation:

1. I no longer want to see myself as guilty. I release all feelings of guilt, and so it is.
